ELMIRA, NY - April 7, 2017 - Drew Fielding stopped 32 shots and the Adirondack Thunder (41-20-7-4) shut out the Elmira Jackals (17-47-7-1), 5-0, in front of 3,601 fans at First Arena Saturday night. The game marks an end of a 17-year run of Jackals hockey in Elmira.

The Jackals played a strong first period, but wound up trailing by two on the strength of two odd-man rush goals for the Thunder. Dennis Kravchenko opened the scoring 3:02 into the first period, striking on a 2-on-1 with a shot from the left circle.

Later in the period, the Thunder took advantage of another 2-on-1 rush at 16:50 for a 2-0 lead. This time is was Austin Orszulak who carried the puck to the right circle, gave a head fake, then slid the puck past Jason Kasdorf for a 2-0 Thunder lead.

A 5-on-3 power play carried over into the second period and the Thunder wasted no time capitalizing for a 3-0 lead. Immediately after a neutral zone faceoff, Orszulak escaped up the middle and buried his second of the night just nine seconds into the second period. Three minutes later and shortly after a Thunder penalty kill, Gunnar Hughes took advantage of another odd-man chance, with a quick stick goal from the slot for a 4-0 Adirondack lead at 3:28.

The Thunder capped the scoring in the first minute of the third period, getting a goal from Brian Ward on a cross-ice pass just 50 seconds into the final period, giving Adirondack a 5-0 lead. That would hold as the final score as Drew Fielding earned his second shutout of the season against the Jackals.
